Adobe PDF Digital Rights Management & Watermarking Solutions |
Today, Hurd I/T provides Digital Rights Management (DRM) solutions using products from Adobe, ActivePDF, FileOpen Systems, and Microsoft to provide secure content delivery of Adobe PDF documents. Built around Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF), our DRM solutions focus on the security of important electronic documents such as contracts, personnel records, training materials, financial statements, and more. Our DRM solutions allow our customers to fully integrate customized digital rights for each file. DRM allows the rights of the owner to be respected when distributing digital content, protecting the material from unauthorized use and piracy. In practice, DRM is a combination of technology and business models that enable the protection of digital files, giving you greater control over who has access to your sensitive material, how, when and where.
What Is Digital Rights Management?
Digital rights management (DRM) is an umbrella term that refers to access control technologies used by publishers and copyright holders to limit usage of digital media or devices. It may also refer to restrictions associated with specific instances of digital works or devices. To some extent, DRM overlaps with copy protection, but DRM is usually applied to creative media (music, films, etc.) whereas copy protection typically refers to software.
What are the benefits of DRM?
The use of digital rights management provides the ability for copyright holders to prevent unauthorized duplication of their work to ensure continued revenue streams. This allows the copyright owners to control the intended use of their PDF documents. Without DRM, PDF files can be easily copied and distributed, resulting in the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted and confidential materials. DRM allows the rights of the owner to be respected when distributing digital content. With DRM, you can designate the permissions for each PDF document and even per download of the document.
In the case of Adobe PDF documents, you can control most aspects of the documents including the following:
- Sharing and forwarding privileges
- Limiting or restricting Copy / Paste of a document
- Printing rights – limiting the number of pages or times a document can be printed.
- Recipient restrictions
- Read-only features
- Document expiration
Integrating DRM into PDF formatted documents gives businesses, institutions, government agencies, publishers, libraries, and ASPs greater control over their copyrighted materials.
